Bat Size

For those of you that are in the market for a new bat for your little guy, may I strongly suggest the following guidelines....
  • No one on the team should be swinging a bat less than 27 inches in length.
  • If you are 40-44 inches tall and weigh less than 70 lbs, you should consider a 27 inch bat.
  • If you are 45-48 inches tall and weigh less than 80 lbs, you should consider a 28 inch bat.
  • If you are 49-52 inches tall and weigh less than 90 lbs, you should consider a 29 inch bat.
  • If you are 53-56 inches tall and weigh less than 100 lbs, you should consider a 30 inch bat.
Now the ounces your child swings can vary greatly depending on which type of bat you get. That is something you want your little guy to be very comfortable with. For example, Trace, who is 47 inches tall and weighs 49 lbs prefers to swing a 27-28 inch bat that is 15-16 ounces. Tyson, who is 52 inches tall and weighs 67 lbs likes to swing a 29-30 inch bat that weighs 18-19 ounces. The weight comes down to preference.

Let's talk more about this on Monday night. I'd like to discuss things like bat speed, force thru the ball and the advantage of having a longer shaft at the point of impact.
