Baseball Gloves

If anyone is in the market for a new baseball glove I have a recommendation. Mizuno has these gloves with the "Power Close" technology that is perfect for younger players. One of the frustrating things about buying a new glove is the time it takes to break in, but the Mizuno Power Close gloves are very easy for the younger player to open and close. I bought one for Trace and he loves it. You can get these at Sports Authority.

As for size of glove, this comes down to preference. My recommendation is to get at least a 10.5 inch to a 11.5 inch. The younger player with a bigger margin of error is a more consistent player. Some of the bigger kids can handle the bigger glove. The smaller players could get a way with a smaller glove. As an example, Tyson has a 11.5 and loves it. Trace has an 11.5 too, but in hindsight I could have gotten him the 11 inch instead, just due to his size. There are advantages to smaller gloves in the infield as the kids get older, but I truly believe having a larger glove builds greater confidence in the kids, especially catching a thrown ball or catching a line drive/fly ball. I'd think hard about an 11 inch - 11.5 inch glove. One he can grow with.

For those golfers out there, think of a glove to your boy like your putter to you. Its nice to pick out your own, feel comfortable with it and build confidence with it....just before you missed that 2 footer that cost you $10 on the skin and then turning around and throwing it into the lake!!!!

Big Stick Cardinals Baseball Club Latest.....

Big Stick Cardinals Baseball Family,

SPAA Manager Meeting - Monday
On Monday, I attend a Manager's meeting for SPAA. One of the things I have to submit are the days that we have scheduling issues. All games are scheduled Monday-Friday.

The season starts the week of April 19th and will run into mid-July. I wanted to know if there are any dates of conflict for you. If you could let me know by Sunday night I will try and see if those dates can be avoided.

Uniforms & Bat Bags
I have placed the uniform order. They should be ready early April.
The bat bags are in already!

Practice Schedule
I am still leaning towards practicing on Sunday nights this season at Strehl. I hope that field availability will be ok on that night. SPAA feels it will be. They have 5 fields so hopefully we will be able to get on. I'm going to run practice each Sunday from 5:30 - 7:00 PM. Everyone seems to be good with that date. Practice will begin March 28th. It truly is the only realistic time to practice.

Tournaments
Another thing I want everyone to begin thinking about is how many tournaments we are going to play in. There are around 12 tournaments locally that we could play in between April-September. Tournaments cost between $275-$400 per team. As long as we have at least 10 kids that want to play in these tournaments we can roll into them. However, I never want to spend your money without your consent. I'll get out a tournament schedule to look at in the upcoming weeks so that we can give that some consideration. We could play any where from 0-12 tournaments. I'm crazy enough I'd play in all 12, but this is a team decision, so I will get all the details out later this month.

All for now. See everyone on the 15th of March for batting practice. NO BATTING PRACTICE THIS MONDAY.

Pray softly and carry a BIG STICK!

Just so everyone knows, here are the sponsors for this year that have paid for brand new full uniforms and brand new bat bags.....

The Tax House, Mike Johnson acquired this sponsor - $300
Haynes Custom Mailboxes, Kevin Haynes - $300
Gateway Products, Josh Skow - $300
Fitzgerald Fotography, Teri Fitzgerald - $300

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!!

I'm getting pricing now on embroidery for the bags. Stay tuned for that.

Uniform Update

If you have not gone to Gaffney's yet to measure for uniforms please do so by Tuesday evening. I am going to put the order in to get the uniforms made on Wednesday. Please make sure you go by to try on the shirts, pants and hat. The shirts as big. The hats come in various sizes as they are flex fit.

Also if the guys want hats please let me know so I can order them for you. Go get your hat size measured though at Gaffney's and tell them you want a hat and they will put you down.

Thanks,
Coach Tom

Big Stick Bat Bags

I have come across a great deal on new red and black bat bags for the Big Stick team. These bat bags are only $20 a piece. I was thinking in the best interest of team unity that we purchase these bags and possibly get them embroidered with the kids names and numbers. What do you think? The kids will love them! I'm not sure what the embroidery will cost but I have someone who can do this for us. Anyone opposed? I think having 13 red and black bat bags hanging on the fence by our dugout would be awesome! I want to order them all at once so let me know if you are opposed.
