If anyone is in the market for a new baseball glove I have a recommendation. Mizuno has these gloves with the "Power Close" technology that is perfect for younger players. One of the frustrating things about buying a new glove is the time it takes to break in, but the Mizuno Power Close gloves are very easy for the younger player to open and close. I bought one for Trace and he loves it. You can get these at Sports Authority.
As for size of glove, this comes down to preference. My recommendation is to get at least a 10.5 inch to a 11.5 inch. The younger player with a bigger margin of error is a more consistent player. Some of the bigger kids can handle the bigger glove. The smaller players could get a way with a smaller glove. As an example, Tyson has a 11.5 and loves it. Trace has an 11.5 too, but in hindsight I could have gotten him the 11 inch instead, just due to his size. There are advantages to smaller gloves in the infield as the kids get older, but I truly believe having a larger glove builds greater confidence in the kids, especially catching a thrown ball or catching a line drive/fly ball. I'd think hard about an 11 inch - 11.5 inch glove. One he can grow with.
For those golfers out there, think of a glove to your boy like your putter to you. Its nice to pick out your own, feel comfortable with it and build confidence with it....just before you missed that 2 footer that cost you $10 on the skin and then turning around and throwing it into the lake!!!!
